40 Month Sentence for Drug Charges

On March 24, 2017, David Duane Mays, 45, of Weir, was sentenced to 40 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Mays entered a no contest plea to Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute on January 24, 2017. Charges stem from a reported domestic disturbance and subsequent foot pursuit by deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department. The eventual apprehension of Mays resulted in the recovery of more than 7 grams of methamphetamine and digital weighing scales.

Williams Sentenced to 60 Months

On February 23, 2017, Raymond Lee Williams Jr., 38, of Galena, began serving a 60 months sentence in the Kansas Department of Corrections. On January 24, 2017, Williams was sentenced to 34 months imprisonment for Possession of Methamphetamine. At the time of the conviction, Williams was on probation for two cases of Criminal Threat. As a result of the new offense, Williams probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve both underlying sentences, totaling 26 months. These cases were investigated by the Galena Police Department, and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, and prosecuted by the Cherokee County Attorney’s Office.

Stocker Sentenced to 17 Months

Jeremy Stocker, 36, was convicted of Criminal Use of an Explosive Device on November 8, 2016. On January 11, 2017, Stocker was sentenced to 17 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. This case was investigated by the Baxter Springs Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
